The Council recognized the Career Exploration Program, heard a Great Lakes update and business-incentive reports, then approved consent items and amendments for the development at 1660–1700 Old Deerfield Road.
What was discussed
The mayor thanked participants in Independence Day events and recognized the Highland Park Career Exploration Program as leadership shifted to Township High School District 113. Mentors and organizers were honored, and a former Council member and program organizer received a key to the city. A subsequent presentation reviewed regional Great Lakes work on water, sustainability, invasive species and pollution.
Staff outlined an unusual proposed $100,000 exterior-improvement arrangement for Bean Bar, pooling five years of grant eligibility for a vacant Ravinia Business District property. The agreement was to return for formal consideration; the food-and-beverage grant was the item on this meeting’s consent agenda. Staff also described allowing Lucid Motors to begin construction while a proposed sales-tax-rebate agreement was prepared for a later meeting.
The Council approved eleven consent items after questions about proposed patios at 925 Deerfield Road. It then reviewed subdivision, planned-development/inclusionary-housing and development-agreement changes for 1660–1700 Old Deerfield Road. Discussion covered three-bedroom affordable units, conservation-area lighting, the Bluegrass restaurant buffer, construction dust, smaller marketing signs and public-versus-private improvements. The three related items were approved as amended.
